Seahorses, like the Great Gorillas are threatened worldwide. Torbay has a good population of two species of seahorses: the spiny seahorse and the short snouted seahorse. Hippocampus guttulatus is the spiny seahorse. Seahorses are very sensitive to their environment, and can change colour to match their surroundings. With their fleshy appendages called cirri, their prehensile tails, their long thin snouts and their eyes which are able to work independently on either side of their head I have found them fascinating creatures to draw. I hope that Hippocampus Guttulatus Gorilla will help to increase the awareness of Torbay’s seahorses.

Cavanna Homes is a local family business building fantastic new homes across the South West. For 90 years we have been building in an exceptional area where we have earned a well-deserved reputation for quality. We have recently been awarded the 5 Star house builder award from the HBF, which is the highest rating awarded. Cavanna remains a family business still committed to the principles of quality and consideration it set out when founded in 1923.
Why did Cavanna Homes want to be a part of The Great Gorillas Project?
“As it is both ours and the Zoo’s 90th anniversary, we couldn’t think of a better way to get the community talking and bring local businesses together to help raise money for this great charity all at the same time.”
